Material Handling

Design of a control system for a 6 km conveyor belt used to transfer coal from a drift mine to the surface, feeding a power station. The system was developed to ensure reliable, continuous operation over long distances.

Integrated emergency stop systems were installed along the full length of the conveyor, enabling safe shutdown in the event of a fault. Intelligent belt monitoring was included to detect belt tears, misalignment, and identify the exact location of issues, improving fault response and maintenance efficiency.

The conveyor was driven by three 380 kW, 3300 V motors, configured to provide consistent power and load sharing. Belt tensioning and alignment systems were also incorporated to maintain correct tracking and reduce wear, supporting long-term operational reliability.

Process

Batch control within the pharmaceutical industry is critical, with both process accuracy and cleanliness held to the highest standards. Systems must be designed to ensure strict control over each stage of production, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Repeatability is a fundamental consideration during the initial design phase, ensuring that every batch is produced with consistent quality and performance. This is achieved through precise control strategies, validated processes, and robust automation systems.

Leading pharmaceutical manufacturers recognise that high-quality control systems are essential to achieving repeatability, directly supporting product integrity and maintaining industry standards at the highest level.

Automotive

Covering a wide range of control systems, from remote I/O architectures through to junction box design, all solutions are developed with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and rapid implementation.

Safety is a critical aspect of every design, particularly in environments where human interaction with robotic systems occurs. Functional safety requirements, including SIL and PL levels, are considered and defined at the initial design stage to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.

All systems are engineered to meet industry standards, with engineers trained and certified by TÜV SÜD, ensuring a high level of competence in safety-related design and implementation.

Marine

Cable laying systems are far more complex than simply driving a drum via hydraulic or electrical means to pay out cable. Effective control requires careful coordination of multiple dynamic factors to ensure safe and accurate operation.

With the increasing adoption of electrical drive systems, control strategies have evolved, requiring more advanced and responsive automation to manage performance under varying conditions.

Key considerations include vessel speed, cable tension during pay-out and recovery, and the impact of sea swell on system stability. Designing a responsive and efficient cable engine control system is essential to maintain consistent tension, protect equipment, and ensure reliable cable deployment.
